Lakeathon in Kodaikanal

This article was written by Rino Raphael Joshy of Grade 9

A former Olympic runner once said, “Run often. Run long. But never outrun your joy of running.”  Athletics is always encouraged in St.Peters and as a result, the students participated in a recent marathon conducted in the town.

On Saturday, the 25th of February 2017, there was a marathon around the Kodaikanal lake which was conducted by the Rotary Club of Kodaikanal. Many schools in and around Kodaikanal participated in the Lakeathon.

Mr. Praveen, an athletics coach from Chennai, began the Lakeathon by providing a brief introduction on the objective of the event and a few tips to follow while running. Our own St. Peter’s coach Mr. Baskar made all the participants do some warm up exercises before the race and later warm down after the race.

The race took place in three different categories Under 14, Under 17 and Under 19. Our school coach Mr. Baskar trained us well. As a result, in the Under 19 category Vikram G. of Class 11 won second place. Though it was challenging to run around the lake, all participants from St. Peters ran till the end of the race and successfully completed it. This reminds me of a quote that I recently read – Finishing a marathon is a state of mind that says ‘Anything is Possible’.

On completion of the race, prizes were handed over to the winners. Mr. Praveen also advised the participants on how they could relax their muscles after running a marathon and added that one needs to persistently practice running. Finally Rtn. Satha Sathish ended the event with a vote of thanks.

National Science Day

This article was written by Ammu Elizabeth of Class XI

Edwin Hubble once said “Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.” As students, we embark on this adventure called Science everyday and hence, it is thrilling to have a day dedicated to this adventure. National Science Day is celebrated on 28th February in remembrance of Noble Prize winner C. V. Raman for discovering the “Raman Effect”. On account of National Science Day, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) conducted an Inter-school competition in Quiz and Painting based on the topic “Modern Astronomy”.

Seventy eight students from various schools participated in the competition. The students who participated in the quiz competition were allowed to explore the museum while the art competition was going on. The students participating in the Quiz were provided with forty questions based on physics which were to be answered in twenty minutes. Ammu Elizabeth and Ananthalakshmi of Class 11 won third place in Quiz . Ammu Elizabeth also won third place in the Painting Competition. The certificates and prizes were presented to the winners by Mr. Selventran (Scientist In-charge), Mr. Kumaravel (Asst. Scientist In-charge) and Ms. Kasthuribai (Librarian and accountant of IIA Observatory, Kodaikanal). The winners received interesting books as prizes which was very exciting.

A lot of activities relating to Science take place in our school, including the recent science exhibition conducted by the juniors. We are thrilled to participate in these activities and competitions, and enrich our knowledge on a daily basis.

World Peace day

World Peace Day at St.Peter’s

The Bible says, “Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.” (Psalms 34:14)

Peace is the state of tranquillity or quiet, and the freedom from civil disturbance. It is accomplished with love.

When should you maintain peace?

  • In times of trouble
  • During a fight

What we did
We all had lots and lots of fun thanks to our dear teachers! We hung all our doves up on the ceiling, and had a short assembly where we took a lot of photos and Joy ma’am gave a speech about that special day. We came back to school the next day and were delighted to see all our photos on the notice board! It was truly awesome.

Thank you all for your efforts because of which we had a wonderful Peaceful Day!!

-Neha Grace (Class 7)
