National Science Day

This article was written by Ammu Elizabeth of Class XI

Edwin Hubble once said “Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science.” As students, we embark on this adventure called Science everyday and hence, it is thrilling to have a day dedicated to this adventure. National Science Day is celebrated on 28th February in remembrance of Noble Prize winner C. V. Raman for discovering the “Raman Effect”. On account of National Science Day, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) conducted an Inter-school competition in Quiz and Painting based on the topic “Modern Astronomy”.

Seventy eight students from various schools participated in the competition. The students who participated in the quiz competition were allowed to explore the museum while the art competition was going on. The students participating in the Quiz were provided with forty questions based on physics which were to be answered in twenty minutes. Ammu Elizabeth and Ananthalakshmi of Class 11 won third place in Quiz . Ammu Elizabeth also won third place in the Painting Competition. The certificates and prizes were presented to the winners by Mr. Selventran (Scientist In-charge), Mr. Kumaravel (Asst. Scientist In-charge) and Ms. Kasthuribai (Librarian and accountant of IIA Observatory, Kodaikanal). The winners received interesting books as prizes which was very exciting.

A lot of activities relating to Science take place in our school, including the recent science exhibition conducted by the juniors. We are thrilled to participate in these activities and competitions, and enrich our knowledge on a daily basis.

Sweet Victory

IGCSE students Grade 10

Several successful people are all-rounders who have excelled in academics and sports. St.Peter’s places adequate importance on sports and this can be seen through several sports activities conducted throughout the year. On July 16th, the Physical Education department along with the sports secretaries conducted the Athletic Meet. Students were encouraged to participate in this tournament that includes events like running, shotput, long jump, discus throw and relay races.

The Meet was kick-started by all students taking an oath, which was delivered by the sports Secretary. This ensures everyone is aware of fair play and sportsmanship.
Each House ( Summer, Spring, Autumn and Winter) were allotted a place to be seated, from where students could cheer on their respective house athletes. Every house had athletes for all events, with boys and girls competing separately.
All athletes were motivated by their cheering houses and put their best foot forward in every event. The air was filled with excitement and energy as the competitions were tough and close.

After a half hour break for refreshments, winners were announced. Each winner earned points for their houses, which would eventually be tallied at the end of the year to announce the Best House.

Results of the Athletic Meet:
1st place – Spring House; 2nd place – Autumn House; 3rd place – Summer House and 4th place – Winter House

Everybody left the field with a sense of euphoria and energy that we believe can only be experienced through sports!

CBSE Handwriting Competition

Cursive (or conjoined) writing is taught and trained at St.Peter’s to improve the handwriting of students. As part of the weekly talent programs conducted by the CBSE management of the school, a handwriting competition was recently conducted for the CBSE students.

There were three judges to assess the entries, and all participants were divided into three categories. Some of the key parameters the judges took into account included presentation, legibility of the written content and the spacing between words.

All participants had done a very good job and three winners were chosen from each category. The competition was very useful since developing a neat handwriting would help in clarity of thought and jotting them down in an organized manner.
The students were motivated and enjoyed the competition.
